Damage & Move-Out Charges

You and your fellow residents share responsibility for your room, suites, and building commons areas. When possible, any person or persons responsible for causing damage will be assessed the repair and replacement charges connected with restoring damaged areas to as close to the original condition as possible.

Damages can be assessed by rooms, suites, floors, or throughout a building. The charges for repairs or replacements will depend on the current cost of materials and the amount of time required to complete the repairs, as determined by the Barnard Facilities office.

Charges are assessed based on move-out inspections or the discovery of damages at other times. Residents are not charged for normal wear-and-tear or for conditions noted on RCRs/SCRs when they moved in.

The following is a list of some of the types of charges that students may be billed:

CLEANING

  • Cleaning and removing trash or other items left behind
  • Refrigerator Cleaning
  • Scraping Off Stickers, Tape Residue, Adhesive (may cost more if painting is needed)
  • Cleaning Walls (no paint required)
  • Carpet/Tile Cleaning
  • Removal of Cinder Blocks
  • Removal of Excess Garbage

LIFE SAFETY

  • Damaged/Missing Smoke Detector
  • Missing Fire Extinguisher
  • Damaged/Missing Heat Sensor
  • Damaged / Missing Fire Horn
  • Removal of window stoppers

PAINTING & WALLS

  • Paint Entire Room
  • Paint/Repair One Wall or Part Thereof

MAINTENANCE

  • Replace Missing Towel Bar
  • Replace Light Fixture
  • Replace Broken/Missing Bathroom Mirror
  • Replace Window Shade
  • Replace Window Blinds
  • Nails or tacks in wall

GENERAL

  • Relocation of College Furniture,
  • Removal of Personal Items Left In Room
  • Non-returned Bedroom or Suite Key 
  • Non-returned CG Building Key or Sulz Tower kitchen key

  • Recycle Bin
  • Bed – Platform
  • Bed – Bunkable
